HSU Filippov Aleksandr Aleksandrovich – gun commander of the 200th Guards Light Artillery Regiment of the 3rd Guards Light Artillery Bakhmach Brigade of the 1st Guards Artillery Glukhov Red Banner Division of the Reserve of the General Command (RGK) of the 60th Army of the Central Front, Guards Sergeant.
He was born on November 22 (December 5), 1917 in the village of Lezhnevo, now Kostroma District, Kostroma Region, into a peasant family. Russian. He graduated from 7 classes. He worked on a collective farm, as a painter at construction sites in Kostroma.
In the Red Army since 1939. At the front in the Great Patriotic War since 1941. Member of the All-Union Communist Party (Bolsheviks) / the Communist Party of the Soviet Union since 1943.
The gun commander of the 200th Guards Light Artillery Regiment (3rd Guards Light Artillery Brigade, 1st Guards Artillery Division of the RGC, 60th Army, Central Front), Guards Sergeant Alexander Filippov, particularly distinguished himself in battles during the holding and expansion of the bridgehead on the right bank of the Dnieper River near the village of Gubin, Kozeletsky District, Chernigov Oblast, Ukraine.
From October 1 to 7, 1943, the gun crew assigned to Guards Sergeant Filippov knocked out an enemy tank, destroyed two anti-tank guns, and up to a platoon of enemy infantry; as part of the battery, he repelled eight enemy counterattacks.
By the Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 17, 1943, for exemplary performance of combat missions of the command on the front of the fight against the Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism shown in doing so, Guards Sergeant Aleksandr Aleksandrovich Filippov was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the presentation of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal (No. 1915).
Citation for Bravery medal received for Stalingrad Battle: In the battle on January 10, 1943, following orders to accompany tanks with fire, the Filipov’s gun crew lost: a gun commander, a gunner, and three numbers. Filippov was not taken aback, he called a scout for help and together, under a shower of bullets, mortar and artillery explosions, he continued to fire, and at the same time destroyed: two mortars with servants, a light machine gun, destroyed a bunker, the garrison of which surrendered.
After the war, Sergeant Major A. A. Filippov was demobilized. He graduated from the Automotive Technical School. Lived and worked in Dnepropetrovsk. He died on February 25, 1990. He was buried in Dnepropetrovsk at the Sursko-Litovsk Cemetery.
He was awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, the Red Star, the Order of Glory of the 3rd degree, and medals.
