Description of Feat or Service

Commander of the 1021st Rifle Regiment, Lieutenant Colonel Gorbunov, in battles during the breakthrough of the enemy’s defensive line and during the liberation of the town Volovo and the station Kastornaya, displayed courage, bravery, and skillful leadership.

His regiment, during the period from 26 to 29 January 1943, destroyed 2,000 German soldiers, captured 1,200 prisoners, and seized the following trophies:

  • Automobiles – 1500
  • Horses – 100

He is worthy of being awarded the Order of the Red Banner.
