Four-piece construction, insignia in bronze gilt with red, white, blue and green enamels, the insignia with six inlaid glass stones, mounted to a base in bronze gilt incorporating a cross in white enamels with silvered trim on its edges, emanating rays between each arm of the cross, unmarked, measuring 62 mm, vertical pinback, intact enamels. Minuature medal. Extremely fine. Original box of issue.

The Order of Merit of the National Police (Orden al Mérito de la Policía Nacional de Perú) was firstly established as the Crosses of the Police Merit in 1945. The Crosses were promoted to Order on May 31, 1950.

The Order was awarded to members of the Police and citizens, both Peruvian and foreigners, in recognition of outstanding action and meritorious service to improve the institutions of the Police.

The Order was awarded with eight grades. The Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer, and Knight were granted to the highest ranks with in the institutions, while the I Class Cross, II Class Cross, and III Class Cross were conferred upon enlisted men.
