The Shock worker was an official title of honour awarded in the Soviet Union to those who displayed exemplary performance in labour discipline. It was awarded with a badge and certificate, as well as a cash prize. The title of shock worker (‘udarnik’) had existed at least since the 1930s.

Circa early- to late -1950s. Brass and enamels; 32.7 mm tall , 33.6 mm wide. Shows a steam engine locomotive under a red flag with “Stalin” written on the front. This is a 1950’s version of the badge featuring bronze finish on locomotive, nickel finish on the cogwheel, relatively thin screw post (approx. 3.5 mm in diameter) and blue enamel in the lettering around the sickle. Excellent quality. Very good condition.
