Stebelsky Vasily Ignatievich. Captain. Commander of the rifle battalion of the 348th rifle regiment of the 51st Vitebsk rifle division.

On January 19, 1945, Stebelsky, while organizing a breakthrough of the enemy’s heavily fortified and deeply echeloned defense on the Narev River, using the success of the units of the 208th Infantry Division (neighbor on the left), crossed the Narev River on his own initiative. At night, he began to pursue the retreating enemy and occupied 7 settlements, after which, fulfilling the assigned task, he reached the Kurpevsk line with small losses, thereby facilitating the advancement of the neighboring 1st Infantry Battalion.

On January 22, 1945, with a roundabout maneuver through Dombrówka, going behind enemy lines, he defeated the enemy garrison, allowing units of the 23rd Infantry Regiment to reach a given line. From January 19th to January 24th, 1945, Captain Stebelsky fought and occupied the heavily fortified enemy strongholds of Stanislavovo, Shafrachistka Gats, and Adamki.

The Soviet Order of Alexander Nevsky was a military decoration established in 1942 by the Soviet Union to honor commanders who demonstrated courage and contributed to the success of their units during World War II. The order was named after Saint Alexander Nevsky (1220–1263).

The order was awarded to commanders of all ranks, from platoons to divisions. The star of the order was worn on the right breast, and the ribbon was bluish-white with a red central stripe. In addition, 1,470 military units were allowed to display the order on their banners, and about 70 foreign generals and officers were also awarded the order.
