The Order of Merit of the National Police (Orden al Mérito de la Policía Nacional de Perú) was firstly established as the Crosses of the Police Merit in 1945. The Crosses were promoted to Order on May 31, 1950.
The Order was awarded to members of the Police and citizens, both Peruvian and foreigners, in recognition of outstanding action and meritorious service to improve the institutions of the Police.
The Order was awarded with eight grades. The Grand Cross, Grand Officer, Commander, Officer, and Knight were granted to the highest ranks with in the institutions, while the I Class Cross, II Class Cross, and III Class Cross were conferred upon enlisted men.
