Citation:

Telephone operator Konstantin Nikolaevich Bykov. On March 27, 1944, within 3 hours to the waist in the Sivash water(Crimea region), he set up a communication line across the bay.

1st Guards mortar battalion of rocket artillery was a part of 23rd Guards Mortar Sevastopol Red Banner Orders of Suvorov, Kutuzov, Bogdan Khmelnitsky and Alexander Nevsky Regiment.

It was formed on March 7, 1942 in Moscow as the 23rd Guards Mortar Regiment. It included the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Guards Mortar Battalions) and other units. The BM-13 rocket systems were in service. The regiment fired its first volleys at the enemy on April 10, 1942, supporting the actions of the formations of the 34th, 53rd and 11th armies of the North-Western Front with fire. Then he was regrouped near Stalingrad and from August 21, being successively part of the 1st Guards and 66th Armies, the 4th Tank Corps and the 2nd Guards Army, participated in the Battle of Stalingrad. In the battles for Stalingrad, the mortar guards inflicted great damage on the enemy in manpower and equipment, showing high combat skills and courage.
The soldiers of the regiment as part of 51 Army of the 4th Ukrainian Front skillfully acted in the Crimean offensive operation of 1944.
For distinction in the battles for the city of Sevastopol, the regiment was awarded the honorary title “Sevastopol” (May 24, 1944).
In June 1944, he was transferred to the 1st Ukrainian Front and, as part of 13 Army, took part in the Lvov-Sandomierz offensive operation.
The regiment was awarded high awards in the Sandomierz-Silesian offensive operation.
At the end of February, the regiment was reassigned to 6 Army of the 1st Ukrainian Front and, taking part in the hostilities to block and capture the city of Breslau (Wroclaw), inflicted powerful fire strikes on the surrounded enemy garrison.
