Red Army soldier Prokhorenko Ivan Fedorovich was a Gun number (45 mm gun) of the 264th anti-tank regiment of the 22nd separate anti-tank artillery Yassky brigade of the Reserve of the High Command. Born 1924. Ukranian. No member of Communist Party. In Red Army since 1942.

1st citation:

In the fight against the German invaders, he showed courage. In the battles in the Buda region 11.2-13.2.1945. From personal weapons, he destroyed more than 20 German soldiers, uninterruptedly provided a delivery of ammunition to the gun, which helped the battery to successfully repel enemy counterattacks.

2nd citation:

In the battles for the Soviet Motherland, he was seriously wounded in a battle near the city of Budapest. During his stay in the artillery battalion, Prokhorenko showed himself to be a disciplined, self-possessed fighter who knew his duties.

The 45 mm anti-tank gun model 1937 was a light quick-firing anti-tank gun used in the first stage of the German-Soviet War. It was created by Soviet artillery designer M.N. Loginov after the arrest and execution of former designer V. von Behring. Production of the gun ceased in 1943 with a total of 37,354 units built from 1937 to 1943.

The Budapest offensive was the general attack by Soviet and Romanian armies against Nazi Germany and their Axis allies from Hungary. The offensive lasted from 29 October 1944 until the fall of Budapest on 13 February 1945.
